“Someone who I have been watching on and off for a long time. Speedball Mike Bailey feels like someone who instantly clicked on AEW tv. One half of the probably my tag team of the year teaming in JetSpeed with Kevin Knight and also great singles settings too. Bailey is such a great plug in wrestler who can win any spot in the card and it feels about right with a great performance or great match.

I think having less matches per year also inspired Bailey to try more things and be more creative with their match layouts.

Bailey did some great work as a bad guy, with being aggressive but still flashy against Matt Tremont. Bailey also did an amazing job against Team CMLL in the men’s Team CMLL vs. Team International torneo cibernetico.” ~ Henry/HeadCheese

“Speedball made the right move at the right time. Fresh matchups and the formation of JetSpeed did wonders for him. A real standout as a utility player amongst a crowded roster.” ~ Stevan S.

“2025 was an abysmally-booked one for the women of AEW: while TK was clearly invested in booking them more frequently, his lack of creativity meant that we had to suffer through month’s worth of “All Star” tags that featured the same 8-10 women for the course of 5 months so that he could drag his feet in booking both the Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament and women’s version of Blood and Guts. Still, Willow is the sort of undeniable star who makes the most of every opportunity, and her versatility really shone through this year. While many will point to her work in the aforementioned B&G and Tag tournament at highlights, Willow’s signature moment for me came in her mixed tags against Jon Moxley: in each of those three matches, the two of them inherently understood that teasing moments of violence between them was a surefire recipe to get the crowd on their feet. I really don’t know how else to put it: this is the most charismatic person on the roster, regardless of gender, and the one most capable of delivering an incredible in-ring performance while remaining affable and likeable on a press tour. Willow Nightingale should be the face of AEW. If this is a just world, she eventually will be.” ~ Orchid

“You think if we touch that bump on Tremont’s head it will pop like a balloon? A skinny, bloody balloon.” ~ Padraig

“Despite Mad Dog not being a “Deathmatch Wrestler”, the series had about as much of a passing of the torch feel as you could hope for. Gave me the same feelings that Tremont versus Necro from ToD over a decade ago. Wasn’t all he had to offer though as the match against SLADE and Kaplan from ICW is a true HOOT OF THE YEAR contender. It has a pretty vintage Tremont performance as a sprint freak. Sometimes people seem to forget he was sometimes booked as a Super Indy guy ala Kevin Steen. “ ~ Sam D.

“The best wobbly bleeder in the world. Very likable” ~ Henry/HeadCheese

“In 2025, the Bulldozer was locked into the biggest and scariest feud of his career: his desire to wrestle vs. the breakdown of his own body. He looks like a man in pain, because he probably is one. He’s sacrificed everything to chase professional wrestling, up to and including his own forehead. (Even Necro Butcher can get a gig at Little Caesar’s, but can you imagine Tremont’s mugwump-asshole forehead skating through a job interview?) There were times in the year where it felt like he was just a bump away from his body failing him, and that in and of itself has made him a more exciting performer to watch. It sounds cruel to say, I know. On the other hand, everyone on this list has suffered repeated brain injuries, so don’t act like there’s no blood on your hands for enjoying AZM.” ~ pto

“The heartbeat of deathmatch wrestling for the last decade plus. Other deathmatch aces have come and gone, but Tremont has remained the standard even though (or especially because) his body shows the wear and tear in every match. Tremont has adapted to it. He leaves the flashy offense to the younger and more athletic workers and builds his matches on how he’ll escape the punishment with his sheer will and veteran craftiness. I have no idea how much longer we’ll be able to watch Matt Tremont do this. God knows he’s tried put at least one foot out the door in the past. But his love for giving his absolute 100% in these matches keeps calling him back, and I’ll cherish him for as long as that keeps on.” ~ chris

“Only watched a handful of Jacky matches but he was always the best wrestler in them. It seemed Jacky was the only person interested in providing some sort of structure to what could (and often would) turn into these big move bonanzas. Fun firework shows, but lacking substance. So always a treat to see him try and make any segment stretch out just a tiny bit longer so you might actually feel something.” ~ Sam D.

“It took awhile, but Dragongate corrected their mistakes made with Jacky post-Natural Vibes. JackyRiiita hit the ground running, and was exactly what both of them needed. Jacky is the emotional core of the team, still consistently one of the best babyfaces around.” ~ Stevan S.

“The more dynamic half of the best tag team in the world, Jacky Kamei formed his tag team with Riiita at the beginning of the year, going from the end of Big Hug to join the fka Gold Class. Kamei and Riiita went on to have match of the show just about every time they teamed up. Finally, he ended the year with a feather in his cap, capturing the Twin Gate titles.” ~ TayKZY

“I’m generally against the gate being open. I have fought against the gate being opened for years. But when I watch Riiita and especially Jacky I think, what the hell, maybe we can at least keep the gate ajar.” ~ chris

“Last week, Pat asked me what I thought about Neon and I said “I don’t fucking care.” That was a bold-face lie: one thing I love about Neon is that he hurt himself on his double-jump top rope moonsault in December, which has led to at least six dozen moments on Wrestling Observer Radio where Dave Meltzer goes on a 7-minute stream-of-conscious monolog about whether or not Neon should continue to do the move even though it is probably the reason why he is over with the Arena Mexico crowd, an excersize that does not seem to help him make a decision about whether or not Neon should continue to do this move. I suspect this beautiful, pointless cycle will continue until Neon breaks his neck, which would most likely lead to Dave going on a rant about wrestler safety that causes him to have an on-air aneurysm. The more I think about this, the more I like Neon. Go Neon.” ~ Orchid

“Just pulling his weight and adding spectacular flair to the ultra-consistent El Sky Team would’ve been enough to earn Neón a spot on this list. But he went further, showing great chemistry in both singles and tag matches with burgeoning star Zandokan Jr. A pairing that feels like a very promising bonus for CMLL’s future.” ~ Nick Yeoman

“Camus once said “Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is”. In the case of Miu Watanabe, she acts in defiance of her natural instinct to be a huge brick shithouse and instead is a bubbly babyface who also happens to still be a huge brick shithouse. Few could balance such a dichotomy but Miu does it pretty easily I find. Really enjoyed her run as a newly crowned domineering ace who freely hosses it up whenever and knows when to turn the gas up and get serious, something which in TJPW seems like a world apart from their usual house style. Very much deserving of a top 100 spot. “ ~ Stump H. Puller

“The only wrestler in the world who can open a show putting on a concert and close it by putting on one of the best matches of the year. Miu is one of the better powerhouses in wrestling and probably the most expressive wrestler in the world.” ~ dokomoy

“Yes, Difunto has some very cool offense, but it’s the way he reacts to the spectacular athleticism of the CMLL technicos that sets him appart.

He’s got something of an Adam West era Batman villain vibe about him. He’s perfectly happy to literally stumble about and be wrong footed, as Mistico and the lads literally fly over his head. He’s a silly guy that can be made to look a fool, but can still show up same time, same place next week, ready to be a threat to our heroes all over again.” ~ Nick Yeoman

“Ahhhhhh he looks so spooky ahhhhhhhh. Difunto wins the coolest looking wrestling of the year. Difunto especially when teaming with his Galeon Fantasma teammates put on some of the best Rudo performances in CMLL all year round.” ~ Padraig

“One of my favorites in CMLL, amazing bumper and so fun to watch.” ~ Henry/HeadCheese

“He checks all the boxes. Gigantic piece of shit rudo who gets the crowd going? Check. Maniac bumper who is constantly eating shit? Absolutely. Has a mask that’s really goofy but also kind of sick? You bet your sweet bippy.” ~ chris

“Interesting year from Roddy. In the early months a lot of his work was done in a bad Undisputed Era throwback stable. But when he started teaming with the Conglomeration as the straight guy to their tomfoolery, it was great work especially when they started feuding with the Death Riders. Add in a fantastic C2 run and yeah you got another great year from Roderick Strong.” ~ Padraig

“One thing about LaBron Kozone is that I often forget he’s 33: while there’s obvious talent there, especially in the finer details of his in-ring work, he doesn’t always seem to put it all together cohesively. I suspect that’s because he hasn’t had the opportunity to work alongside many of the greats quite yet, and a part of me does think he could get there with the right coaching. Even still, Kozone certainly turned in a pretty great 2025 in DPW, holding the National title up until the company’s final show and turning in a career performance against Jake Something in the main event of the company’s 4th Anniversary show. It’s a shame that we won’t get a chance to see him as the company’s focal point, as it obviously seemed like the slow-burn direction Tony, James, and Johnny were headed. But I’m sure he’ll catch on somewhere else—hopefully on a bigger stage, as the guy certainly deserves it.” ~ Orchid

“Best wrestler from the best promotion. DDT gave Higuchi the ball and told him to go score and boy did he. The Guch won King of DDT and then the  KO-D Openweight Championship. This run was short, only lasting 63 days, but every single match hit. Higuchi, if he’s fit, is just always going to be on this kind of list. One of the best in the world.” ~ Padraig

“The benefit (or curse) of writing these words months after the year’s done with is that you get to add context that otherwise wasn’t present, like the fucking Gooch suddenlyand immediately retiring in March of 2026. It’s a harsh blow to both the quality of modern wrestling, and my subsequent investment in modern wrestling, and his 2025 is all the evidence of that. Even when he’s not the constant focus of DDT like he rightfully should be as arguably the best wrestler alive, he wills his way into the conversation through sheer talent and with a forehead made of steel.” ~ FUJIWARASMIRK

“Higuchi’s tournament run and title reign is a consolidated look at what makes him so great. You always wish there was more of it, but you can’t say the reign didn’t respect your time. “ ~ Stevan S.
